Bernie Sanders wore mittens recently and very soon, the mittens became a popular meme. He was quick to monetize this popularity by selling merchandise related to the popular meme and  he managed to raise millions for charities in Vermont. Overall, the merch line related to the popular meme earned him $1.8 million.
